Article 5

ARTICLE V: OFFICERS

  • Section 1—The officers of the chapter shall be president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. 

  • Section 2—Student officers shall be elected at the last meeting of each school year. All junior class members are eligible to run for a position as an officer. All junior class members of the chapter are eligible to vote.  (Amended on 4/8/14)  

  • Section 3—Junior class members who are interested in running for an office will require a nomination from any member in writing submitted to an advisor one week prior to the last meeting. A two part election will be held. One ballot will be cast for those running for President/Vice President with the person receiving the most votes becoming the President and runner up becoming Vice President. A second ballot will be cast for those running for Secretary/Treasurer with the person receiving the most votes becoming the Secretary and runner up becoming the Treasurer. After both the President/Vice President election and the Secretary/Treasurer election has been decided, if there are still open offices remaining then the second runner up from the President/Vice President election may fill the open office.  (Amended on 9/9/21)  

  • Section 4—A plurality vote shall be necessary to elect any officer of this chapter. (Amended on 4/8/14)    

  • Section 5—A mandatory officers meeting will be held after elections for outgoing officers to train new officers in their duties. (Amended on 4/8/14) 

  • The following duties should reflect the responsibilities developed for officers in the local chapter: (Amended on 4/8/14) 

  • Section 6—It shall be the duty of the president to preside at the meetings for this chapter. The agenda for meetings shall be set by the president and vice president. The president shall act as master of ceremonies (emcee) for the annual induction ceremony. (Amended on 4/8/14)  

  • Section 7—The vice president shall preside in the absence of the president and shall also keep a record of members’ contributions to leadership and service. The vice president shall assist with emcee duties during the annual induction ceremony. (Amended on 4/8/14) 

  • Section 8—The secretary shall keep the minutes of meetings and be responsible for all official chapter correspondence. The secretary will submit electronic minutes to the adviser(s) after each meeting to be posted on the Stevens NHS web site. (Amended on 4/8/14) 

  • Section 9— The treasurer shall keep the record of chapter expenses, dues, and all other financial transactions of the chapter.  The treasurer will maintain a record of meeting attendance and submit an electronic record of attendance to the adviser(s). (Amended on 4/8/14)
